A person who can control and influence objects and other circumstances using only the power of his or her mind is said to have pyschokinetic powers. Though the term psychokinesis is generally applied to the ability to control things with the mind, there are different classifications or types of psychokinesis based on capability.
Mind over matter
A gifted person can take the saying “mind over matter” literally when he or she controls an object by just willing it. Psychokinetic people can use their abilities to transport one item from one place to another by “lifting”it with their minds. Those who are strong enough can even levitate heavy objects such as tables, chairs, and even people.
Disturb autonomous body processes
Psychokinetic people can also use their powers to control their own bodily processes that normally are automatic. One swami who purportedly had psychokinetic powers let experts test him while he was consciously stopping his heartbeat, breathing, and even bloodflow. Other psychokinetic individuals also claim to be able to stop the heartbeat and other bodily processes of other beings such as frogs and other animals.
Influence events and circumstances
With the special abilities that psychokinetic people are gifted with, they can use these to influence or change different events and circumstances. For example, a potted plant falling from the ledge can be “caught” or deflected so as not to harm any people who are directly below that window sill. Having this special gift not only gives the person the advantage, but also the chance to do good for others.
