There are various types of psychic powers. There is the power to see visions and dreams that come true later. Some other psychic powers involve the ability to read tarot cards accurately and interpret dreams correctly. Another popular psychic power is the ability to communicate with spirits and angels. There is also the power that can make one move things without actually touching them.
Because of the popularity of psychics and the seemingly incredible abilities they possess, psychics and psychic powers as well are among the favorite topics of controversies. The power of a psychic does not create solid proof. The audience then have to put their full trust to the psychic. Probably for this reason, there are many people who are cynical about psychics and psychic powers.
In the 1930s, there was an attempt to scientifically prove that psychic powers really exist. Joseph Banks Rhine, who later earned the title of the Father of Modern Parapsychology, conducted various research and experiments to prove that Extra Sensory Perception does exist. Although there was still no solid proof that ESP is real, Rhine’s effort made his organization for paranormal studies affiliated with an American organization of scientists. However, this success was short-lived after a member of Rhine’s organization was caught changing the results of Rhine’s experiments.
Today, there are various research papers and books dedicated to psychic and paranormal studies. Some of these books contain testimonials of people who have an actual encounter with the paranormal and who have experienced psychic powers.
